A roll on roll off (RORO) skip is a large, open-topped container — typically 20 to 40 cubic yards — that is delivered and collected by a specialist vehicle with a hydraulic tilting mechanism. Unlike standard skips, RORO skips are designed for high-volume waste and are placed directly on site, making them ideal for construction projects, large-scale clearances, and industrial operations. Standard skips are smaller and suited to lower volumes of domestic or light commercial waste.
If the RORO skip is placed on private land — a yard, car park, or factory site — no permit is required. If the skip needs to be positioned on a public road or pavement in London or Surrey, a skip permit from the relevant local authority is required. We advise on permit requirements during booking and can assist with the application process where needed. If a road permit is not feasible, our wait and load service may be a more suitable alternative.
